COVID-19 Second Wave: I Will Not Lock Down Adamawa State – Gov. Fintiri Says

BY AUSTIN AJAYI, YOLA – Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has declared that he will not lock down the state for whatever reason in spite of the significant increase in the number of infections from the COVID-19 pandemic being witnessed in the state.
Fintiri, who announced this while fielding questions from journalists at the Yola International Airport on his arrival from vacation, said that Adamawa State has in last one week recorded 50 new cases of the corona virus, the highest recorded in a day so far.

This number has however dropped significantly with the last new infection of 26 persons recorded on January 10, 2021.
The state which now has a total of 494 infections with 233 on admission presently with 238 discharged patients recorded 26 deaths as a result of the pandemic.

This, Governor Fintiri said is not a cause for alarm, saying; “There will be no lockdown as far as I am concerned. The committee and the state government are doing their best to see that we further enlighten our people to brace up and to ensure that we keep up with the COVID-19 protocols so that we remain safe in the state and the entire nation.

“This is my wish, but I won’t lock down the state for whatsoever reason,” he assured.
Fintiri recently reiterated his call on the need for citizens to observe all the non-pharmaceutical protocols in order to stop the spread of the virus.
