Criminal Summons On Soludo: CJN Orders Investigation Of Area Court Judge

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad has directed the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Judicial Service Commission to initiate disciplinary action against a Judge of an Upper Area Court, Justice Husseini Yusuf-Baba for issuing direct criminal summons against the Governorship candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), in Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo.

The Upper Area Court Judge, Justice Husseini Yusuf-Baba had on August 23, 2021, issued a direct criminal summons against Prof Soludo over alleged perjury, corruption and false assets declaration which is completely outside the jurisdiction of his Court.

The directive is part of the determination of the Chief Justice of the Federation, who is also the chairman of the National Judicial Council to put an end to impunity and misconduct in the judiciary.

The Director of Information of the National Judicial Institute, Mr Soji Oye confirmed the directive of the CJN.

Forefront News recalled that the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Muhammad had on September 6, 2021 met with the Chief Judges of FCT, Anambra, Cross River, Imo, Jigawa, Kebbi and Rivers states during which he directed some of them to admonish Judges in their jurisdictions on the danger of granting ex parte injunctions.

The Acting Chief Judge of the FCT is expected to submit his findings to the Chief Justice of Nigeria within 21 days.
