CSED Applauds BFN On Promotion Of Badminton
Community Sport and Educational Development (CSED) Initiative has commended the commitment and efforts of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN) in the promotion of the game across the country.
CSED Initiative is a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) with a mission to use Nigerian children and youth participating in sports related activities to promote literacy and their social well-being as well to develop well balanced future sports men and women.
The NGO also aims at using sports to empower young persons to fulfil their potentials and achieve their dream of earning a living, while representing Nigeria in international sporting competitions.
A statement by CSED Initiative said since the current Board Members of the BFN assumed office, they have worked hard to attract the support of different organisations and sponsors in their attempt to attract new and young players to the game of badminton.
The noted they Board of BFN has done well by organizing “Shuttle Time” training as well as “badminton outreach training in the six geo-political zones of Nigeria, through the BFN partnership with CSED Initiative.
The statement further said; “It is hoped that other sports federation would emulate the grassroots developmental effort of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria, that has also taken the game to at risk groups Internally Displace Persons (IDPs) and asylum seekers in Nigeria”.
The commendation is coming after the Edo Sports Commission and the Badminton (BFN) organized a two-day badminton training for games masters/mistresses in Uzarue, in Etsako West Local Government Area (LGA) of the State which was bankrolled by the State Sports Commission with the technical support of the BFN and powered by CSED.
The event which was held at the premises of St Angelas Girls Grammar School Uzarue was attended by 21 teachers and 84 students from 21 secondary schools in Etsako land, as well as secondary schools from Igarra, Afuze and Ikpeshi.
The statement also stated that grassroots badminton training provides teachers and students the opportunity to learn the basics of the sport together at the same time, adding that the training involved the theoretical aspect of the game and more importantly the practical area of badminton.
The training was conducted by three qualified “Shuttle Time” trainers, Godswill Afejika, Olalekan, Fajimiyo, and Blessing Osayomwanbo while the trainees were taught shaped grip and the thumb grip.
At the end of the training, free basic badminton equipment that included nets, rackets and shuttlecocks were distributed to the 21 schools in order to support the learning and practicing of the students and their teachers in their various schools.
