CSU Certificate Saga: Atiku Speaks
BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – Amid mounting pressure following the release of President Bola Tinubu’s educational documents by Chicago State University (CSU) as ordered by the US Court, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has fixed a World Press Conference for today, Thursday, October 5, 2023.
This was disclosed on Wednesday night by one of the spokespersons of Atiku’s Campaign Organization during the February 25 presidential election, Dele Momodu.
According to Momodu, the Wazirin Adamawa, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s presidential candidate in the February poll, will be having a date with the media on a wide range of issues affecting the country.
However, with no specific agenda on the table, speculations are rife that the media engagement might be connected with the certificates of President Tinubu released by the CSU on Monday.
With the forgery allegation among the prayers dismissed by the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) in the suit filed to challenge Tinubu’s election, the PDP flag bearer had approached the US Court requesting the documents to back his claims in the appeal currently before the Supreme Court.
The former Vice President, through his counsels, had requested the following key documents, an example of a CSU diploma issued in 1979; Tinubu’s diploma issued in 1979; example of a CSU diploma that “contains the same font, seal, signatures and wording” as Tinubu’s diploma issued in June 1979 and CSU documents certified and produced by Jamar Orr, an Associate General Counsel at CSU at the time.
Interestingly, more than 48 hours after the US Court ruling, many political commentators have been wondering why Atiku and his camp seem so quiet despite the fact that the CSU certificate issue, alleged identity theft and perjury have dominated major headlines and discussions in the social media with some critics even challenging President Tinubu to resign from office over the embarrassing controversy.
