President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajearo, has said that the current price war between the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPC Ltd) and Dangote Refinery is as a result of policy somersault of the Federal Government.

Ajaero specifically said that it was fraudulent and unacceptable that a product produced within the country that was not based on dollar import and without landing cost, Customs duties and other charges associated with importation, it was amazing to force Dangote to sell at the same cost with that imported.

The NLC President told Airport Correspondents at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2, Lagos, on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 that in a deregulated economy there is choice and competition, stressing that what is presently going on NNPC Ltd and Dangote is nothing but fraudulent.

Ajaero noted that the basis of regulating the price Dangote, a private sector should sell its petrol id fraudulent, saying that Nigerians must rise and speak against the government’s attempt to dictate for the private sector how much it will sell its product

He noted that what Nigerians witnessed in the last two weeks was a deliberate attempt aimed at frustrating Dangote, adding that the same government has failed to repair the refineries as it promised in August 2023 and this is September 2024, more than a year after, yet nothing is working.

Commenting on the implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage by the government, the NLC President said the meeting on consequential adjustment committee is currently working towards its implementation.

Ajaero said there is no cause for alarm as the new minimum wage will be implemented according agreement reached in April 18, 2024, saying that government will pay since the National Assembly has already passed the bill.
