The #EndBadGovernance and Hunger protesters on Saturday, being the Day 10 of the nationwide protest, tactically beat the blockade by officers and men of the Nigeria Police in Abuja, the Nation’s capital to hold their demonstration.
The protesters had vowed to mobilise one million man march as part of the realisation of their aim to end bad governance, hunger, high cost of living, removal of fuel subsidy, among others.
Expectedly, while the police laid siege at the entrances leading to the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, the protesters beat the security agencies and appeared in their large numbers at two separate venues namely; Apo and Lokogoma districts of the capital territory
The protesters tactically avoided the Stadium close to the City Gate as well as the Eagle Square in the Central Business District (CBD) where the heavy presence of the men and officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Military was so visible.
It was gathered that unlike previous timing, the protesters assembled at Apo and Lokogoma districts as early as 7 am carrying and displaying placards with different inscriptions at the same time chanting anti-government songs.
Some of the songs chanted by the protesters included, “Reverse policy on fuel subsidy”, “#EndBadGovernance”, “End Hunger”, Stop Corruption” among others.
The protest, which commenced last week Thursday, August 1, 2024, later turned violent in some cities as hoodlums hijacked the process and embarked on massive looting, destruction of critical infrastructure and attack on motorists among others.
Some of the most affected cities, particularly in the Northern states include, Kaduna, Bauchi, Jos, Kano, Gusau, Gombe, and Suleja in Niger State where many of the violent demonstrators resorted to carrying and flying foreign nations flags particularly that of Russian which the military described as an act of treason.
Some of the hoodlums that infiltrated the protesters called for a regime change which the organisers of the #EndBadGovernance protest vehemently condemned.
