December Salary Excites Nasarawa Workers As Gov. Sule Orders Payment before Christmas
BY AHMED TUKUR, LAFIA – In fulfillment of his promise to pay Salaries before 25th of every month, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has directed the payment of December salary before Christmas to allow civil servants celebrate without much cash squeeze and difficulty.
Checks by Forefront indicated that the Nasarawa state government commenced payment of the December Salaries on Monday, December 20.2020 four days before Christmas.
On Tuesday morning, most banks across the state were filled to the brim especially ATMs, with civil servants and other customers making transactions.
The situation was also not different in most markets as workers trooped to make purchases for Christmas and New Year celebrations to beat time.
A visit to Jos Road, Lafia where most banks are located, long queues were noticed in most banks in keeping with the COVID-19 protocol.
Most of the workers, who spoke with our correspondent, thanked the state governor for the gesture and urged him to sustain the tempo, saying that despite the fact that he is not in the country yet salaries were paid early enough.
James Namo, a staff of the state ministry of Education, said that he was in the bank as early as 6:00am to withdraw and buy food stuff for Christmas.
According to him; “We really thank the governor because we never thought he would pay before Christmas because when he came, he promised to pay on 25th of every month but this time he paid on 20th to allow us to celebrate the Christmas”.
Similarly, Ishaya Godwin, a staff of the ministry of Agriculture also expressed joy and happiness for the decision of the state governor to pay before Christmas.
He said; “I was surprised when I got salary alert on Monday evening. This is the first time in several years that we are paid with ease during festivity that takes place before the end of the month”.
