…Says, tax policies are heartless

The Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry, Enugu, Rev. Fr Ejike Mbaka, has declared that the mass defections of Governors from other political parties to the All Progressives Congress (APC) will not guarantee political continuity or electoral success for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Mbaka said what is needed is for the Federal Government to prioritise compassion in governance.

The cleric emphasised that political dominance or alignment cannot substitute for public goodwill, saying that leadership must be anchored on responsiveness to citizens’ suffering and economic realities.

In the words of Mbaka; “Even if every governor joins the APC, you will fail. The loyalty of the people, rather than party strength, ultimately determines political survival”.

The popular and outspoken cleric who stated these during a sermon, specifically criticised the administration’s tax policies.

He noted that the introduction of additional taxes at a time of widespread economic hardship was unjust and insensitive to the plight of ordinary Nigerians.

Mbaka said; “There is nothing wrong with paying taxes, but at a time like this, imposing taxes on the people is wickedness”.

Fr Mbaka’s remarks came amid growing public dissatisfaction over the rising cost of living, sweeping economic reforms, and tax measures introduced by the Tinubu administration, which critics noted have further strained already burdened households.
