Democracy Day: PMB Addresses Nigerians Tomorrow

With many Nigerians lacking kind words for the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) after three years in office, President Muhammadu Buhari will on Tuesday address the nation to celebrate 19 years of unbroken democracy.

The national broadcast is also expected to mark the third anniversary of President Buhari-led APC administration since coming to power on May 29, 2015.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, said television and radio stations across the country are enjoined to hook up to the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and Radio Nigeria for the broadcast.

The Federal Government adopted May 29, 1999 as ‘Democracy Day’ to commemorate the day Nigerian Military handed over the reins of power to democratically elected representatives at all levels of governance in the country.

In their second coming, the military had ruled the country between January 1984 and May 1999, with about two years of civilian rule at the state level and local government, between 1991 and 1993. – With agency reports
