Despite maintaining an impressive scoring form with his eighth goal of the season, Nigerian international, Emmanuel Dennis could not stop Watford from suffering a humiliating 4-1 home loss to West Ham United in their English Premier League pairing on Tuesday night.

The Super Eagles call-up opened the scoring for the host inside the Vicarage Road Stadium just four minutes into the game after being teed up by Joshua King. However, the visitors were too hot for Claudio Ranieri’s men as they bounced back in fine fashion to score unreplied four goals that ended their five-game winless run in all competitions.

With the latest strike, Dennis has now surpassed his best-ever league goals return since becoming a professional in the 2016/17 season in the Ukrainian Premier League with Zorya Luhansk.

His previous best league returns were in the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons with Club Brugge where he scored seven league goals each in 30 and 26 games respectively but he has, however, surpassed that feat with just 16 league games in England.

Also, he has had a direct hand in 10 of the Hornets’ last 13 goals in the Premier League, either scoring or assisting 59 per cent of Watford’s 22 goals in the top flight this season. The goal capped an impressive first half of the season for the Nigerian who joined the Hornets in the summer from Belgian giants, Club Brugge.

The 24-year-old is currently regarded as the bargain of the summer and his imposing form has seen him making the list of Super Eagles players for the forthcoming 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon next year.

However, his English club, Watford remain outside the bottom three (17th place on 13 points) but are yet to pick up a single point since costing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer his managerial position at Manchester United on November 20, 2021

For West Ham, the victory saw them jumping above Tottenham Hotspur into fifth place, four points off Arsenal in the final UEFA Champions League spot.
