The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) says ten members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) abducted by suspected kidnappers have been rescued from Egume Forest in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
According to a DHQ’s issued on Monday in Abuja, the operation was conducted by joint security forces and the rescued victims were among 15 corps members abducted by gunmen last week while travelling from Bayelsa State to the nation’s capital, Abuja.
Reports indicated that the kidnappers were demanding N20 million ransom from the families of some of the victims.
The DHQ further disclosed that the operation is still ongoing, with security forces working in synergy to rescue the remaining victims and apprehend the perpetrators.
Consequently, it urged members of the public to remain calm and vigilant, while encouraging them to promptly report suspicious movements or information that could assist security agencies in rescuing the remaining victims and arresting those responsible for the criminal action.
The statement further said: “The operation is still ongoing, with security forces working to rescue the remaining victims and arrest the suspects.
“Members of the public are urged to remain calm and vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious movement or information that could help rescue the remaining victims and arrest the perpetrators”.
