District Heads Back Sanusi As Kano Emir Tussle Rages

Amid the legal tussle that has engulfed the Kano Emirship, more District Heads and members of the Tijjaniyya Shura Council, a council of Islamic Sect, have pledged their loyalty to the reinstated Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II.

This development comes against the backdrop that things are gradually returning to normal in the ancient city of Kano as the tension over the rightful occupant of the throne eases off.

With Emir Sanusi II entering the 6th day of his reinstatement to the traditional stool, reports indicate aside from the District Heads and the Tijjaniyya Shura Council, other prominent individuals now throwing their weight behind Sanusi, despite the legal challenge, include Khalifa Sayyadi Bashir, Sheikh Ibrahim Shehu Maihula, Barrister Habibu Dan Almajiri, and Khalifa Abdullahi Uwaisu.

On Sunday during his initial official court session, Emir Sunusi play host to 40 District Heads and prominent individuals within the Emirate Council.

Around the Kano metropolis and the surrounding areas, it was discovered on Thursday that normalcy seems to have returned with many residents now going about their daily activities without much ado.

Reports said though security personnel were seen at the Emir’s Palace and Guest House where deposed Emir Bayero is currently taking solace, their presence in the city centre did not seem to disturb many of the residents.

Alhaji Kabiru Abubakar of Dakata Quarters said most of Kano residents were more concerned about their livelihoods than who becomes the Emir of Kano.

He expressed confidence in the political and religious leaders in the state to resolve the matter very soon.

Hajiya Aishatu Danlami of Brigade Quarters commended the state government for banning protests, which she said prevented miscreants from taking advantage of the situation to cause mayhem.

Danlami praised residents of the city for resisting provocation from individuals seeking to create confusion in the state.

“Allah has spoken, and Sunusi is now in the palace, piloting the affairs of the Emirate. May Allah continue to guide him to bring about the progress we desire,” she told NAN.

Alhaji Abdullahi Yakubu said the return of Sunusi was a reflection of the desire of the people of the state.

Alhaji Musa Isa of Dala in Dala Local Government Area called on Aminu Ado Bayero, to accept the situation as the will of God.

Isa said there could only be one Emir at a time and urged Bayero to move on with his life as “Allah has spoken through the installation of Emir Sanusi.”

Also a available reports showed that the Kofar Kudu palace of the Emir has been a beehive of activities with people from various parts of the city trooping to witness royal displays and performances.

These include traditional gun salutes for the reinstated Emir and the riding of well-decorated horses by palace aides.

Similarly, hawkers of various wares are having a field day, taking vantage positions in front of the palace to sell foods, drinks, textile materials, shoes and prayer mats, among others.

Not left out in the hustling are praise singers and drummers that daily invade the palace to entertain guest who come from various parts of the country to pay homage to the re-appointed Emir.

With the Sanusi camp insisting that he is the rightful Emir, having been reappointed by Governor Abba Yusuf, the opposing camp is not ready shift ground as it continued to flaunt the order issued by the Federal High Court sitting in Kano countering his reinstatement.

So, for keen watchers of the unfolding drama and events, the supremacy battle may drag for long until the suit challenging the State government’s decision is finally determine in favour of any of the contending paries. – With NAN report.
