Diversion of North-East Materials: Whistle Blower–Kyari Dismissed By PCNI
BY EVELYN DADU, ABUJA – The Presidential Committee on Northeast (PCNI) has sacked its manager in Borno state, Mr. Kyari Pindar Mshelia, over an allegation whistle blowing on the diversion of relief items and educational materials meant for schools in the zone.
It was however gathered that the sacked Kyari Mshelia, who is PCNI’s Programme Manager, was not responsible for exposing the latest scandal of diversion of materials by some senior PCNI officials.
Kyari had previously, through official channels raised concern on corrupt and fraudulent activities at the Federal Government inaugurated humanitarian agency.
The sacked Kyari and one other staff were allegedly fingered by top management staff of PCNI of being the sources of leaked information on corrupt practices at the agency.
The whistleblowing was on the Director of Administration of PCNI, Hajiya Amina Maibe, who was allegedly linked to the diversion of educational materials supplied for teachers and students of some selected secondary schools in Borno state.
The development resulted in a protest by a group of teachers at the Government Secondary School Maiduguri last week.
Prof. Hauwa Biu, PCNI member told staff members at a meeting in Maiduguri that the Presidency was disturbed about the scandal and had directed the police to launch an investigation into the matter.
The police was equally directed to identify the school principals and teachers who led the demonstrations as well as fish out the staff members that exposed the incident.
Following the development, the Vice Chairman of PCNI, Mr. Tijjani Tumsa, who is believed to be an in-law to Haijya Maibe, went to Maiduguri last Friday to resolve the matter but after an emergency meeting, Kyari was dismissed on suspicion of leaking the scandals in the agency to the media.
He was accordingly ordered to delete all documents in his laptop and hand over PCNI’s properties at his disposal to the Administrative Director.
The second officer, Mr. Ibrahim Goni Machina was spared as he was only given a warning.
