Claiming to ‘mistakenly’ assault his nine-year-old daughter, thinking she is his wife, a 42-year-old man is now with the Adamawa State Police Command to answer for the misdeed.

Currently cooling his feet inside the Police cell, the suspect, Auwalu Shuaibu, has regretted his action, with a plea to turn a new leaf.

Adamawa Police Spokesman, SP Suleiman Ngurore, while confirming the arrest, said Auwalu expressed regret for his actions at the police headquarters in Yola on Thursday, March 14, 2024.

Ngurore said Auwalu, who confessed to the crime, disclosed that the incident happened after he returned from a meeting in Gizga area of the State.

According a confessional statement to the Police, Auwalu claimed that he and his friend, Bashiru, went to purchase welding materials, and in the process drank some whisky to make merry.

Both of them later visited the cattle market to buy some hard drugs and on returning home at around 6pm, he fell into deep sleep and only woke up to find a ‘woman’ beside him.

Speaking further, Auwalu said unaware that the person’s identity in that drunken state, he sadly mistook his daughter for his wife.

In expressing regrets over the unfortunate incident, Auwalu said he has now given up drinking alcohol and using illicit substances as part of turning a new leaf and becoming a good citizen.

Meanwhile, the Command Spokesman hinted that the Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris had ordered that the suspect be prosecuted for his crime against the minor.
