DSS Arrests NLC President, Joe Ajaero At Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja
The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, was in the early hours Monday, September 9, 2024, arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Comrade Ajaero was arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja while preparing to board a flight to the United Kingdom for an official engagement.
It was gathered that the NLC President was billed to attend a conference of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) taking place in the United Kingdom today.
The reasons for his arrest by the secret police was were not made known as at the time of filing this report, but it was gathered that the DSS later handed over Comrade Ajaero to the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) for further interrogation.
The DSS is yet to issue any statement over the arrest of the NLC President with regards to circumstances and reasons why Ajaero was arrested.
In the same vein, the NLC National Secretariat is yet to respond to the arrest of its leader.
The arrest of the NLC President is coming at a time, it is holding high level discussions regarding the economic policies of the federal government considered to be strangulating Nigerians owing to spiral inflation and high cost of living in addition to a drastic reduction in the purchasing power of the citizens.
