Following a covert operation, the Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a notorious bandit in Bojinji Village on the outskirts of Bauchi.
The operatives of the secret police also recovered millions of naira in cash and a significant quantity of ammunition.
It was gathered that the suspect recently relocated from Zamfara State to Bauchi and settled in Bojinji village with members of his family under the guise of fleeing persecution. While Bauchi State may have become a safe haven for people displaced by conflicts in neighbouring states, security officials noted that criminal elements are increasingly taking advantage of the movement to conceal their activities.
However, an intelligence-led raid which was carried out without prior notice, took most of the residents by surprise just as the DSS closely and successfully tracked the suspect’s suspicious wealth and movements before moving decisively to get him apprehended.
Security sources also revealed that the suspect was widely known for his extravagant lifestyle as he was said to frequent Unguwar Yelwan Angas, where he spent long hours drinking and lavishly buying alcohol for people.
Surprisingly, in spite of lavish spending habits, members of the community did not suspect him of any wrongdoing until the intervention of the DSS.
Accordingly, security agencies have called on residents to remain vigilant and promptly report individuals whose lifestyles appear inconsistent with their legitimate means, stressing that that community cooperation is crucial in exposing criminal networks.
It was further gathered from dependable security sources that investigations are ongoing to determine the full scope of the suspect’s activities and possibly identify any or other accomplices operating within the state.
