DSS Releases Detained #ENDBadGovernance Protesters – Source
Security information filtering into Forefront News desk, indicated that the Department of State Service (DSS), ha released protesters arrested for various roles during the nationwide #EndBadGovernance that took place from August 1 to 10, 2024.
It was gathered that the Director General of the Service, Mr Adeola Ajayi, on Saturday, September 19, 2024, asked the detained protesters to be released and accordingly directed their immediate from the cells of the DSS.
This was as it was also gathered that those released commended the gesture of the DSS boss and expressed optimism on the humane face with which the Service conducted the investigation into their cases.
Checks by Forefront News further indicated that six of the arrested and detained protesters that were being held in Kaduna regained their freedom after been cleared at the end of investigations.
However, three other of the protesters are being prosecuted for established prima facie cases against them.
A close source to the DSS told Forefront News that the Director General of the DSS emphasis the rights of citizens to peaceful protest as enshrined in the constitution and regard for the rule of law but in a civil and peaceful manner.
The security source however said that in spite of the position of the DSS boss, he remains resolute and committed to upholding the mandate of the Service in decisively investigating and bringing to justice those who attempt to exploit such rights to protest to perpetrate crime.
