The Department of State Services (DSS) on Wednesday night released the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Abdulrasheed Bawa from its custody.

The immediate past EFCC boss was released from the national headquarters of the secret police, popularly called ‘Yellow House,’ in Abuja, after spending 135 days with the nation’s secret police.

However, details of his release were sketchy at the time of filing this report as it was not known where Bawa went after his release.

The Service is yet to issue a statement on the release of Bawa, who has not been charged with any offence before any court of law since his arrest and detention.

Bawa was arrested and thrown into detention by the DSS on June 14, 2023, when he honoured an invitation over undisclosed reasons, Interestingly, Bawa had earlier on the same day visited President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Rock Villa.

Reports later emerged in the media space that the former EFCC Chief was being investigated for alleged abuse of office and financial impropriety for the period he superintended over the anti-graft commission.

It was reliably gathered that all through his confinement period, the detained former EFCC Chairman shunned all pleadings for him to engage a legal counsel to plead his case.

Meanwhile, as the news of Bawa’s freedom hit the streets, efforts to reach the Spokesperson for the DSS and the EFCC, Dr Peter Afunanya and Dele Oyewale proved abortive as they failed to respond to enquiries on the development.
