Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) in a decisive and tactical operations in Rano, successfully rescued the Secretary of Kibiya Local Government Area of Kano State that was abducted by bandits.
The Secretary of Kibiya Local Government Council of Kano State was reportedly kidnapped at his residence in Kibiya some days ago by armed assailants who later demanded a N100 million ransom as precondition for his release.
Security sources disclosed that the kidnappers allegedly traced the victim through insider information provided by a resident of the area.
It was further gathered that the abductors were believed to have come from Rijana, a location reportedly linked to criminal activities along the Kaduna–Abuja axis.
However, a security source said that acting on credible intelligence, DSS operatives identified the hideout of the kidnappers in Rano and launched a coordinated raid in the early hours of Tuesday, March 24, 2026, during which a gun battle ensued between security forces and suspected kidnappers.
The operation led the DSS team to successfully rescued the victim alive, while two of the kidnappers were apprehended after a gun duel.
It was also gathered that two of the suspected kidnappers managed to escape with gun shots and are currently being trailed.
Security sources said that the rescued Secretary of the Kibiya LGA is in stable condition and is receiving medical attention before being allowed to go and reunite with members of his family.
Following the development, the Kano State Government has reiterated its commitment to tackling insecurity across the length and breathe of the state, stressing that efforts will be intensified towards eliminating kidnapping and banditry activities.
