Insist Gov on solo mission
BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – News coming out of the National Assembly (NASS) is not cheering at all for Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State as federal lawmakers from the South East state have distanced themselves from his widely-reported defection to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
It is confirmed that NASS members from the State, elected on Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s platform will not be joining the Governor in APC.
Reacting to Governor Umahi’s move, the federal lawmakers from Ebonyi announced that no member of the caucus is decamping with Governor Umahi.
The caucus leader and former Governor of the State, Senator Sam Egwu, said for now, all the three Senators and five House of Representatives members are staying put in PDP.
With sources hinted that the Ebonyi lawmakers are drawing great strength from the NASS caucus of PDP, the governor seems “like a fish out of water.”
Giving credence to this position of things, Senator Egwu said; “Ebonyi governor is on his own on this matter and is the only person going to another party.”
Governor Umahi, who is currently the Chairman of South-East Governors Forum, had on Tuesday, November 17, formally announced his defection to APC
Attributing his decision to obvious “marginalization” of Igbos by the PDP, Governor Umahi said by now, the party should have made categorical statement on zoning its 2023 presidential ticket to the South-East geo-political region
The governor further warned that if things do not improve soonest, PDP will soon witness the exodus of its leaders as well as members in the South-East region to the ruling APC.
