Ahead of the September 19 Governorship election, combined security agencies on Saturday carried out an “Inter Agencies Show of Force” to alert residents of the state of their readiness for the poll.
The security agencies that participated in the exercise include the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force Nigeria Police, the Department of State Services, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Immigration Service, Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigerian Correctional Service and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
Areas covered by the “Inter Agencies Show of Force” include Upper Mission Extension, New Benin, New Lagos Road, Boundary Road, Airport Road, Akenzua Road, Ekenhua Road and Uselu/Lagos Road, Sapele Road, Sokponba Road, Erediawa Road, Murtala Mohammed way, Ikpoba slope/Ramat Park and Aduwawa Road.
Speaking to journalists at the end of the exercise, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Edo State Command, CSP Chidi Nwabuzor said the exercise is to ensure that the state is well monitored ahead of the election.
Nwabuzor further said that the “Show of Force” is aimed at sending a strong signal to criminal elements in the state that security agencies were prepared and determined to ensure a peaceful election and should not be tried.
The police spokesman also said that the security agencies are working with the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure credible election on Saturday, September 19, 2020.
Nwabuzor said that the exercise is expected to continue on Sunday before movement of security personnel to the different Wards and Local Government Areas for the election.
