Edo: Obaseki Vs Shaibu War Gets Messy As Governor’s Security Men Take Charge

The cold war which snowballed into animosity between Edo State governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, and his deputy, Comrade Philip Shaibu has degenerated to a level that is becoming difficult to define.

This followed the prevention and attack on the media crew attached to the office of the deputy governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, by the security personnel attached to the office of Governor Obaseki who prevented the media crew from gaining access to a State function.

The unfortunate development took place on Monday, August 28, 2023, at the ongoing 60th-anniversary celebration of the Midwest Referendum which was held at the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub, Benin

It was gathered that the media crew attached to the deputy Governor were all at work when the Chief Press Secretary and the Public Relations Officer to the Governor Obaseki, Mr. Andrew Okungbowa, and Ms Osarumwense Margaret Ojo respectively, identified them one after the other before security men of the Governor moved into action and physically forced them out of the venue.

Frantic efforts by the Deputy Governor, Comrade Shaibu to ensure that they were allowed to remain in the venue were futile as he was told by the security men that it was against protocol as well as based on “instruction from above”.

Following the development, Shaibu, who used to hold sway and control levers of power in the state a few months ago, said that he could not be at an event where his media crew is barred and thus left the venue of the event.

Similarly, the embattled Deputy Governor on Sunday, August 27, 2023, suffered a similar incident and humiliation at the hands of the security personnel attached to the Governor at the 32nd anniversary celebration of the creation of Edo State as he was prevented from going near his principal, Governor Obaseki.
