EFCC Arrest 13 Chinese For Illegal Mining In Kwara

Efforts at checking the menace of illegal mining in Kwara State have continued to yield results with operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arresting 13 Chinese over the alleged crime.

The suspects, currently in the custody of the Ilorin Zonal Command of the  anti-graft agency, are 12 males and one female.

Reports said the Chinese nationals were arrested on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, in the Government Reserve Area (GRA) of Ilorin, the State capital.

The Commission said the action followed credible intelligence about their activities of illegal mining and non-payment of royalties to the Federal Government as required by law contrary to and punishable under Section 1(8) (b) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act Cap M17, 1983.

According to the EFCC’s spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, prior to the arrest of these suspects, investigations indicated that the operators had different illegal mining sites in almost all the 16 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.
