BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – Less than 24 hours after being whisked him away from the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos by officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), emerging facts indicate the immediate past Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, has knotty issues to clarify with the anti-graft agency.

Offering insight into recent developments around Obiano’s freedom, spokesperson of EFCC, Wilson Uwajaren, said being on the Commission’s watchlist prior to the Thursday handover, the former governor needs to explain and answer questions concerning governance matters during his eight year tenure in Anambra.

Uwajeren, who confirmed that Chief Obiano is currently cooling his feet in the Commission’s custody, told BBC Pidgin that there are specific questions for him to answer, with respect to his period of stewardship.

According the the EFCC Spokesman; “Obiano has been on our watchlist for some time now. He had immunity as a governor and that is why we could not arrest him before now.

“Today he lost that immunity and was traveling out of the country before we finally arrested him.”

EFCC operators were on ground to pick up the former governor who had concluded plans to jet out of the country on Thursday, March 17, 2022 through the Lagos International Airport on his way to Houston Texas in the United States.

He had always mulled the intention of relocating to the United States after relinquishing power to the new Governor, Chukwuma Charles Soludo, and was set to fulfill that desire when the anti-corruption Commission struck.

Interestingly, the development comes barely hours after his wife and former Anambra First Lady, Ebelechukwu, made unfortunate headlines during a slapping incident involving her and late Odumeigwu Ojukwu’s widow, Bianca, at the swearing-in ceremony of Governor Soludo.

The social media was awash on Thursday’s morning that Ebelechukwu was slapped in public by Bianca Ojukwu, wife of the late Biafran warlord, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

Video footage from the incident had shown Ebelechukwu make her way to where Bianca was seated. After a short verbal exchange, Bianca had stood up and slapped Ebelechukwu.

Unconfirmed reports claimed that she had not only mocked Bianca, but accused her of vowing never to attend any events hosted by the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and also called her a bitch as widely claimed in the media.
