EFCC Nabs Son, Mum For Alleged N50m Internet Scam

For their alleged involvement in a N50 million computer-related fraud, the Chief Executive Officer of 10 Kobo Wine Place in Ikotun area of Lagos State, Ibeh Theophilus Uche and his mother are currently cooling their feet in the custody of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Head of Media and Publicity in EFCC, Mr Wilson Uwujaren said the main suspect, Ibeh reportedly admitted having defrauded some victims following ongoing investigation into the racket

According to Uwajaren, the 28-year-old suspect was arrested in his room in Radisson Blu AnchorageHotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, following credible intelligence reports about his suspected criminal activities.

The EFCC Spokesperson disclosed that all the victims were extorted in Lagos, adding; “During interrogation, Uche, who presents himself variously as Rachael Armstrong, Keanu Reeves, Rebekah Schwarzenberger, Keanu Private, Elizabeth Hortman and Stefan Paulson, confessed to being into Bit coin investment scam, romance scam and identity theft.”

“He said; “The suspect also confessed to have defrauded his victims to the tune of about N50m since he started the criminal activities in 2020.”

An EFCC statement signed by Uwajaren further; “Investigations revealed that the suspect had been using a First Bank account belonging to his mother, who is one of his accomplices, to launder the proceeds of his alleged criminal activities.“

Items recovered from the suspect are one iPhone 11 Pro Max; one iPhone 12 pro max; two MacBook Pro-laptops; a PlayStation 5; an iPad and a small Nokia touch phone.“

Others are a Mercedes BenzS550 2015 Sedan car and a Lexus RX 350 SUV 2016, among other incriminating items.”

The anti-graft Agency said in the statement that “The suspect will soon be charged to court” at the conclusion of its investigations into the matter.

In a related development, the Anti-corruption Agency’s Zonal Office in Benin disclosed that 10 suspected internet fraudsters were arrested in Oghara,  Delta State in the wee hours of Friday, March 25, 2021.

Those arrested include Ifeakachukwu Prince, Vincent Ikechukwu, Oki Morrison Onome and Lucky Morrisson Efe. Others are: Ejiro Nwaju, Onyije Ifeanyi, Sunday Fejiro, Wisdom Agharadoro and PeaceOmaghoni.

Items recovered from the suspects include laptop computers, phones, Mercedes-Benz 350 4Matic and C330.

By the EFCC’s account, all the suspects have already made useful statements and will be arraigned in court as soon as investigations are completed.
