- Says Ekiti people deserve better
BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – Former Governor of Ekiti State, Engineer Segun Oni says the attack on his convoy by suspected hoodlums during a political function in Efon Alaaye Local Government can not distract his political mission to rescue the State from ruins.
Oni, who is the touch bearer for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the June 18, 2022 gubernatorial poll, said the incident is a clear reminder of how things have gone awry in the State over the years.
He told journalists in Lagos that the unfortunate event also throws up a challenge for Governor Kayode Fayemi whose expertise in criminology have not added value in combating crime and criminality in the South-West state.
According to him, there is no denying the fact that thuggery and other crimes in Ekiti State are products of poverty inflicted overtime on the people by successive administrations
He said the massive grassroot support being enjoyed by the EKITI KOYA OTOGE mantra is a strong indication that the people are no longer ready to tolerate failed promises of democratic dividends come 2023 general elections.
The SDP candidate said when elected, good governance informed by deep and creative thinking, would be his watch word as was the case during his first tenure in office, with evident Index ratings of renowned International Economic Organisations like the United Nations Development Programme, UNDP.
Urging the people not to be deceived by moneybags’ politics, the former governor assured the electorate of giving them a breath of fresh air after the June governorship poll.
Oni is also quoted as appreciating the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s decision to extend the time for voters’ registration among other mobilisation efforts for the forthcoming election.
