Ekwueme’s Health Stabilising – Doctors, Family
BY RAPHAEL ONYEKACHUKWU, ENUGU – Former Vice President, Dr. Alex Ekwueme is alive, stable and responding to treatment, an official of Memfys Neuro-surgical Hospital in Enugu, has said.
This is contrary to early morning rumours that the elder statesman is dead. The official told Forefront at the hospital that “Ekwueme is still in Memfys Hospital” and his health crisis is stabilizing.
According to the official, who did not want his name in print for obvious reasons, the ex-Vice President was admitted at the hospital for chest infection but he is stable and doing well.
President Muhammadu Buhari last week ordered that the elder statesman should be flown abroad for better care following reports of his health uncertainties.
The official told our correspondent that Ekwueme was receiving the best attention from the hospital and there is no cause for alarm, warning those peddling the rumours of his dead to desist from spreading such wicked news.
Explaining that by its rules, the hospital does not give out information about its patients, the official said; “I can tell you clearly that the speculation of his dead is false”, adding that; “He is recovering and doing well. People should not spread false information. The family members are always here with him.”
“I must also tell you that we have information to the fact that the Federal Government had undertaken to fly him abroad for special attention once he is more stable”, the official said.
Also, the traditional ruler of Oko community in Orumba North Local Government of Anambra, Igwe Laz Ekwueme, corroborated the hospital official’s statement. He assured that ‘Ekwueme is alive and recovering from illness.’
Laz, who is also the younger brother to the former Vice President, told newsmen in Awka that people had called the family to ask about the state of the elder statesman.
