Following what appeared a lack of synergy and total breakdown of talks over negotiations of the national minimum wage and a reversal of the astronomical increase in electricity tariff, the Organised Labour is to commence an indefinite nationwide strike from Monday, June 3, 2024.

President of the NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero, who announced this at a press conference in Labour House, Abuja, said that the strike would commence by 12mid-night of Sunday and will be total.

This was as the labour leader expressed sadness over the refusal of the Federal Government take its June 1st ultimatum serious to conclude negotiations on a new national minimum wage and reversal of the over 300 percent hike in electricity tariff.

At briefing in Abuja, leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) pleaded with Nigerians to bear with them and expressed regret over the inconveniences the strike may cause Nigerians.

“We tender apologies for inconveniences, but we are commitment to pursue this cause to its conclusion,” the Labour leaders pleaded.

The Organised Labour on the aegis of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and its Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), had warned that they would be forced to declare a nationwide strike from Monday if the tripartite committee on the new national minimum wage failed to meet the expectations of Labour.
