The remains of Elizabeth Wilson, wife of eminent journalism professor, Desmond Wilson, will be committed to mother earth on Friday, August 6, 2021, in her hometown of Eket in Akwa Ibom State.
Born in November 1955, Mrs Wilson died in June 2021 and until her demise was a retired Deputy Registrar, University of Uyo
Details of the funeral arrangements indicated that a vigil mass was held on Thursday, August 5, 2021, at St. Patrick Parish, Afaha Inang in Uyo Local Government Area.
According to the burial programme, a funeral mass for the deceased has been slated for today (Friday) at St. Gregory Parish in Eket Local Government Area.
In a moving tribute appreciating his mother, a son to the deceased, Ini-Abasi Wilson, said her death came as a shock to the family and she will be greatly missed.
He wrote thus: “The mistake I made is that at a point, I thought you were immortal because I saw you as a god. I never really realised that you could die somewhere.
“This is a very big lesson. I wasn’t prepared for this. Rest nicely mommy, you know that my love for you is eternal.
“We shall definitely see face to face again so that we have that our discussion. Love you.”
Mr Wilson, a retired Communication Lecturer at the University of Uyo, married his late wife in 1978. A 1994 Bachelor of Arts (Education) degree holder, Late Mrs Wilson also bagged an M.Ed in 2000.
She finally called it quit from active service in the year 2020 at age 65.
Recalled that Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State had in commiserating with Prof Wilson on the demise of his wife, Elizabeth, expressed pains at the sad occurrence, even as he encouraged him and the entire family to maintain unshaken faith in God.
The Governor’s message was conveyed by the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong, during a condolence visit to the deceased family residence in Uyo.
In his response, the journalism lecturer, who appreciated the governor for the visit, recollected beautiful memories of his late wife as well as the great plans they had together.
The state government delegation comprised Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mr Inyang Jameson; Director of Administration, Mrs Tiuba Nduonofit; Director of Public Relations, Mrs Grace Akpan; and Assistant Director in the Ministry, Mr. Aniekan Ukpong.
Prayers were offered for the bereaved family for strength to bear the irreparable loss.
