Equity And Justice Lacking in Plateau APC – Umar Shittien

BY CHAMBERLAIN ODEY, JOS – Foremost lawyer, political activist, and Chairman of the Equity and Justice Group in Plateau State, Mr. Umar Shittien Esq, has declared that all was not well in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State as a result of the absence of equity and justice.

He, therefore, called on the leadership of the party to work hard towards genuine reconciliation of ranks as well as enthrone justice and fairness in the Party ahead of the general elections.

Shittien noted that the intolerable political circumstances that brought the APC into being an alternative platform to sustain the Plateau project in 2015, have raised their ugly heads again to plunge the Party into annihilation in the build-up to the 2023 general elections.

Shittien, who stated these while speaking at the inauguration of Local Government Areas coordinators of the Tinubu/Shettima Grassroots Independent Campaign Council (ICC), said it was important to address all the grudges and grievances arising from certain pre-elections activities in the Party if the desired results are to be expected, noting that with the necessary internal cohesion, the same faith ticket of the APC can pass through the electoral needle’s eye.

Inaugurating the coordinators for the 17 Local Government Areas of the State, the State coordinator of the ICC and member representing Mikang/Shendam/Quaan Pan Federal Constituency, Hon Alphonsus Kumsol, said the task is upon all party members to approach the elections with a unity of purpose, saying it will be more beneficial for the party to work as one, win the elections, then sort out its internal crises and differences.

Accordingly, Komsol tasked the LG coordinators to embark on aggressive grassroots mobilization and campaigns, especially using the door-to-door approach, and also urged the coordinators to identify trustworthy characters at the ward level to ensure that mobilization of resources for elections are entrusted into the right hands that would, in turn, ensure that the right things and arrangements are put in place to deliver every polling unit to the APC.

He further challenged the coordinators to spread the message of voting for the APC from top to bottom, saying the party cannot afford to lose any office to the opposition.

Reassuring that the Tinubu/Shettima Grassroots Independent Campaign Council (ICC), was formed at the instance of the APC presidential candidate himself and that as a state coordinator, he is a foundation member of the ICC with direct access to the presidential flag bearer, Komsol said that however, the ICC is a complementary, not parallel campaign outfit to the APC Presidential Campaign Council of which Governor Simon Lalong is the Director General.
