Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and Governor of Imo State, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In his letter of resignation, addressed to the Chairman of the PDP in Mbutu Ward in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, Hon Ihedioha, a founding member of the PDP, said that the Party was no longer able to carry out internal reforms.

Ihedioha, a close political ally of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, explained that he decided to resign from the party he has contributed his quota to its development and transformation as a result of the fact that it has taken on a path that is at variance with his personal beliefs.

In the words of Ihedioha; “All these years, I have taken pride in the fact that the PDP is a party that will always look inward for internal reforms and provide credible leadership for the people, whether in power or outside power.

“I have had the benefit of serving and benefitting from the party at various levels. Regrettably, in recent times, despite my attempt to offer counsel, the party is, sadly no longer able to carry out internal reforms, enforce its own rules or offer credible opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

“It is in the light of the foregoing that I am compelled to offer my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party effective immediately,” he stressed.

Ihedioha also said that while this decision was difficult for him to take, he, however, believe that it is the right one, adding however that despite the resignation, he will always be available to offer his services towards the deepening of democracy and good governance in Nigeria.

Copies of the letter that was acknowledged and received by the chairman of Mbutu ward of the PDP on April 23, 2024 were sent to the Chairman of the Party in Imo State, National Chairman of the PDP and Chairman of the PDP Board pf Trustees.
