An early-hour explosion in the early hours of Tuesday, December 30, 2025, rocked the General Hospital, Bagudo, Kebbi State.
The incident according to the account of the Nigeria Police occurred at about midnight when a loud explosion erupted at the hospital premises, causing serious panic among residents.
A joint security team, comprising personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, the military, and local vigilance groups, was immediately deployed in the scene.
Accordingly, the police command in Kebbi State assured residents of Bagudo and surrounding communities that the security situation remains under control, adding that no lives were lost in the incident.
This was as the affected area was quickly cordoned off and secured by officers and men of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) that immediately commenced a detailed assessment of the situation.
Although one of the buildings within the hospital’s staff quarters got damaged, it was however gathered all the occupants were successfully evacuated from the area unharmed.
In the meantime, the Commissioner of Police in the state has reinforced security around the hospital with additional tactical units to ensure public safety and prevent any breakdown of law and order.
This was as the spokesman of the Nigeria police in Kebbi State, SP Bashir Usman announced that a comprehensive investigation has been launched into the incident to determine the cause of the explosion.
Usman urged members of the public to remain calm and to avoid the vicinity of the hospital to allow security operatives and investigators carry out their duties effectively.
The police command in Kebbi assured the residents that further updates would be communicated as investigations progress.
In a related development, deadly gunmen on Monday, December 29, 2025, stormed Gebbe in the Shanga Local Government Area of the state and launched an attack on the community thereby threw residents into a panic mood as they scampered and fled to neighbouring villages and bushes.
It was further gathered that the assailants stormed the community without any warning signs and started firing sporadically, a development that caused serious panic among residents who were forced to abandon their homes for safety.
While confirming the incident, the Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said additional security operatives had been deployed to the area.
Usman said; “We have been informed of the attack, and the command has deployed a tactical team in the area to get the real information of what happened and the number of victims”.
The police spokesperson further said that officers were assessing the situation to determine the number of lives lost and the injuries sustained.
