President Muhammadu Buhari has charged pupils of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara in Katsina State recently freed from their adductors’ den to put the ordeal behind them and face their educational pursuit.

This is as he claimed the kidnapping incident may have been targeted at embarrassing his administration by some criminal and unpatriotic elements

Not betraying emotions, Buhari told the 344 rescued students and representatives of the parents that with their bright future in education, they must not be distracted by recent events that jolted their lives.

The President, who hosted the freed students at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Katsina, said; “The future belongs to the youth, especially those who are educated, as well as those who are in the sciences which your school specialises on.

“I have gone through boarding school like you as a young boy, and education was what made me what I am today.”

Describing the students as lucky for coming out unharmed from such harrowing experience at the hands of bandits, President Buhari said; “You are lucky. Your school focuses on the sciences and sciences are part of modernisation which allows you to secure good jobs.

“The future is not for those that read English Language or History, but for those that read the sciences. I hope you will forget what happened to you and focus on your education instead.

According to him, “Some of my relations, who didn’t acquire education, are now paying the price as their animals and land have become less productive than before.

“I have relations that are not educated and their cows have finished while their lands are not as productive as before. It is because I acquired education that I am where I am today.”

Clearly putting a lie on the Boko Haram’s notion that “Western education is forbidden”, the President said; “Try your best to acquire both western and religious education so that you can become whatever you want in life.”

The president thanked God for sparing the students’ lives and urged them to take their studies seriously in order to accomplish their life’s missions.

However, in what seems an indictment and admission of security failure, President Buhari charged security agencies to up their game and diligently work towards routing the bad eggs from the society.

For him, the security agencies as well as all stakeholders must not “forget that we will all face justice at the end of the day, whether we like it or not.”

The President therefore admonished all concerned to remember that the time of giving account of our deeds before God would eventually come, adding; “I call on all security agencies, the military, police, DSS, to continue to do their work in the fear of God by rooting out the bad eggs amongst us.”

Advancing his claims of possible conspiracy to unsettle the government, the President, who spoke in vernacular, said it was not a coincidence that the bandits struck the day his home visit to Daura took place after about 18 months away in Abuja.

President Buhari, while vowing to leave behind a stable and prosperous nation before his administration runs out, added that with his planned retirement to Daura after May, 2023, he has to stay in touch with the people.

“I normally visit my home town because I swore by the holy Quran that I will safeguard the nation’s constitution, hence I must hand over power on May 29, 2023 to the next government.

“So, if God spares my life, I’ll definitely come home here. This therefore informed my visits home”, he said
