Faulty Operations: NSCDC De-registers 100 Private Security Firms
- Grants licenses to 1,200 new outfits
With the challenging security situation in the country high on its agenda, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has granted licences to over 1,200 Private Guard Companies (PGCs)
This is as the Corps also clamped down on over 100 PGCs nationwide by withdrawing their licences as part of ongoing efforts to sanitize the private security sector for effective service delivery n the country.
Speaking at the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum in Abuja on Sunday, Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Dr Ahmed Audi, said the Corps has introduced stringent measures in the running and ownership of private security companies, with regular training and supervision of their activities and programmes
Audi, who also disclosed that the Corps had withdrawn the licences of some private guard outfits due to challenging operational issues, said over 4,000 PGC operatives have undergone training this year in line with plans to ensure there was sanity in the business.
According to him; “Between now and the end of the year, the corps would train an additional 3,000 to 4,000 operatives for the private guard companies”, noting that PGCs have continued to gain popularity across the country.
He said the NSCDC would not hesitate to withdraw the licences of PGCs that fall short of the operational requirements, adding; “We have had reasons to withdraw the licenses of many because we monitor, license, regulate, train, and supervise them.
“We have closed down almost 100 of such companies who for one default or the other and are unable to operate. We seal them until they sort out the issues before we open them up and allow them to operate”, the NSCDC boss said. – With NAN reports
