The Senator Nenadi Usman-led faction of the Labour Party (LP), on Friday, August 15, 2025, accused Julius Abure, chairman of a faction of the Party of forgery and an attempt to manipulate judicial processes to influence the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) council elections.
Usman in a statement by her Senior Special Adviser on Media, Ken Asogwa, described a recent court order allegedly secured by Abure’s camp as “an act of desperation.”
The court order believed to have been issued by a Nasarawa State High Court, directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to upload the names of candidates submitted by Abure’s faction for the February 2026 FCT council polls.
Usman specifically questioned the timing of the court order’s release, which she noted was suspicious as it coincided with the nationwide bye-elections.

The LP Caretaker Committee Chairman referenced Abure’s alleged involvement in a forgery case linked to the 2023 Ebonyi State governorship election, saying that the Attorney-General of the Federation has directed his prosecution.
Usman specifically said that the Nasarawa State High Court lacked jurisdiction over a federal body such as INEC, stressing that Abure is “forum shopping” by avoiding the Federal High Court, which has exclusive jurisdiction in such matters.
She pointedly said that the move amounted to “a blatant abuse of judicial process” that should attract sanctions.
Citing a Supreme Court April 4, 2025, decision, Senator Usman noted that the apex court ruling clearly removed Abure from office, stressing that Abure is working with the APC-led Federal Government to undermine the Labour Party and weaken Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
In the words of Usman; “Their unholy alliance serves one purpose alone: to erode our democratic institutions and diminish the authority of the Supreme Court.
“Nigerians must remain vigilant against the plot to destabilize both the party and the nation’s democracy,” she said.
