…Commence search for her missing son
The Nigeria Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has rescued a 36-year-old woman, known as Grace Aniekuoku, who was believed to have been chained and confined in a room by her brother for more than 16 months.
The Commissioner of Police for the FCT Command, CP Mohammed Sanusi, disclosed that the command received a distress report on June 12, 2026, detailing that the victim, an indigene of Anambra State, was being unlawfully chained and detained under inhumane conditions by her brother, Chinedu Aniekuoku.
Sanusi said that immediately he the command received the report, a team of detectives from the Katampe Division were quickly despatched to the scene.
CP Sanusi said upon arrival at the scene, the suspect Chinedu Aniekuoku became hostile and resisted allowing the police officers from gaining access to the premises where he chained and confined his blood sister.
The FCT police boss, however said that the officers had to forcefully gained entry into the room and discovered the victim in chains and in an extremely emaciated and dehumanised condition.
“The victim was lying in her own waste under deplorable sanitary conditions.
“The suspect was promptly arrested while the victim was rescued and rushed to a hospital, where she is currently receiving medical treatment,” he said.
CP Sanusi said that preliminary investigations have so far revealed that the suspect had allegedly taken away the victim’s son to an unknown location about two years ago.
The Police is working to unravel the circumstances that led to the prolonged confinement of the victim and the whereabout of her son who is yet to be located.
CP Sanusi said that efforts are in top gear to locate and rescue the missing child, while the terribly emaciated victim continues to receive medical care and rehabilitation.
The police boss also said that the suspect who is presently in custody, will be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
The FCT Police Command assured of its commitment to protecting vulnerable persons and urged residents to promptly report cases of abuse, unlawful detention, and other criminal acts to law enforcement agencies.
