Few Days After Dismissal Of 27 Staff, EFCC Detains 10 Operatives For Theft
Following the disappearance of Over $350,000 in cash and Jewelries in its Lagos Zonal Command, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has detained 10 of its officers for theft.
The EFCC recently announced the dismissal of 27 officers from its workforce, saying that the action was taken to enforce integrity and rid the anti-graft agency of fraudulent elements.
The officers of the anti-graft Agency, it was gathered were arrested last week in connection with the theft of some operational items that they could not account for.
The commission in a statement by Dele Oyewale, spokesperson of the EFCC on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, said that the 10 officers being detained were from the Lagos Zonal Command of the agency in respect of investigation of some missing items involving them.
Ojewale said the action was an ongoing effort to sweep EFCC clean of corrupt tendencies, adding that the officers, who were arrested last week on the directives of the Executive Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, answered questions related to the theft of some operational items that they could not account for.
According to Ojewale; “Investigators are making good progress, and those found culpable will be subjected to internal disciplinary processes”.
The EFCC Chairman, Mr Olukoyede emphasised the commitment of the Commission to zero tolerance for corruption, thus warned that no officer was immune to disciplinary measures.
In his words; “Every modicum of allegation against any staff of the Commission would always be investigated, including a trending $400,000 claim of a yet-to-be-identified supposed staff members of the EFCC against a Sectional Head.
“The core values of the Commission are sacrosanct and would always be held in optimal regard at all times,” he said.
