The Federal Government has announced public holidays for Christmas, Boxing Day and the New Year celebrations.
According to the announcement by Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, December 25 and December 26, 2025, have been set aside to mark Christmas and Boxing Day, while January 1, 2026, will be observed as the New Year public holiday.
The declaration on behalf of the Federal Government was contained in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr Magdalene Ajani.
The Minister charged Nigerians to use the Christmas period to reflect on values such as love, peace, humility and sacrifice, which are linked to the birth of Jesus Christ.
He also encouraged citizens across the country, irrespective of religion or ethnic background, to pray for peace, improved security and the overall growth of the nation during the festive season.
Importantly too, Tunji-Ojo urged Nigerians to remain law-abiding and stay alert to security issues while celebrating.
This is as he extended goodwill messages to citizens, wishing them a joyful Christmas celebration and a successful New Year.
