FG Warmly Receives 390 Nigerians Repatriated From Niger Republic

The Federal Government has warmly received a new batch of 390 Nigerian migrants, who were stranded in Niamey, Niger Republic and repatriated back to Nigeria.

The returnees arrived at the Nigeria Immigration Training School (NITS) in Kano on Tuesday at 1:05 a.m.

The group comprises 387 adult males, two adult females, and one infant boy.

Their return was facilitated by the Nigerian Mission in Niamey and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).

Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Hon. Tijjani Ahmed was on hand to welcome home the returnees.

He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to reintegrating them into various empowerment programmes in the country.

Also on ground to receive the returnees were officials from various agencies, including the NCFRMI, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), International Organisation for Migration (IOM), and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).

All the returnees were registered and profiled to ensure proper documentation and access to reintegration support programmes.

This is the third batch of returnees from Niger Republic, following a similar repatriation efforts in December 2024, which saw 702 stranded Nigerians returning to the country.

Available statistics indicate the Federal Government has been working to support Nigerians stranded abroad, with a total of 5,219 individuals repatriated from Niger, Libya, and other countries between February and December 2023.
