FIBA Lists D’Tigress In Top 10 World Ranking
- Make history as first African team to reach Olympics q-finals

Fresh from their stellar performance at the just concluded Paris 2024 Olympics, Nigeria’s female basketball team, D’Tigress have been listed as the eighth placed team in the world.
According to the latest International Basketball Federation (FIBA) rankings released on Thursday, the six-time AfroBasket champions jumped four places to become one of the top 10 teams globally.
With its eighth position placement in the latest ranking, the D’Tigress become the first African team, Male or Female, to break into the top 10 of the FIBA world rankings.
Statistics from the world basketball governing body indicate that D’Tigress’ historical rise on the global stage is linked to their dazzling performance at the just-concluded Olympic games in Paris, France.
On their way to the historic showing in Paris, D’Tigress outclassed both Australia and Canada in the group stage to become the first African team to feature in the Quarter-Finals at the global sports fiesta
Despite the team’s impressive run at the Olympics being eventually stopped by Team USA in the Quarter-Final round, D’Tigress’ brilliant performance earned their head coach, Rena Wakama the best coach title in the women’s basketball event.
On the global ranking, the Olympic champions, United States (US) retained their top spot, followed by Australia and France.
Completing the line-up for the world’s best five teams in women’s basketball are China and Spain
