Finally, President Buhari Sends Nomination of Dongban-Mensem To Senate For Confirmation As President Court of Appeal

BY VICTOR BUORO, ABUJA – At last, President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday, sent the nomination of Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, who is presently the Acting President, Court of Appeal to the Senate for confirmation as President, Court of Appeal.

This was contained in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu, saying that the Presidential action is in-line with the constitutional responsibility of the President.

Shehu had on Sunday said that the President cannot be pressured to appoint anyone into office until every step and security clearance is are carried out and concluded.

There has been mounted pressure by different groups and organisation clamouring for the confirmation of Justice Dongban-Mensem particularly against the backdrop of the fact that the National Judicial Council (NJC) nominated and recommended her to the President for appointment as President, Court of Appeal. 

Justice Dongban-Mensem is a serving Justice of the Court of Appeal and was recommended, as is the practice, by the National Judicial Council for the nomination by the President.
