Finally, Uwajumogu Takes Oath As Imo North Senator

After months of legal contestation to claim his electoral mandate, Benjamin Uwajumogu has finally been sworn in as the Senator representing Imo North Senatorial District in the ninth National Assembly (NASS).
The swearing-in, which took place on Friday at the upper Legislative chambers, follows the decision of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to obey the Federal High, Abuja’s order that proclaim as illegal its action of not declaring Uwajumogu as the Senator-elect during the February 23, 2019 National Assembly election
A reluctant INEC had on Thursday, July 25 issued Certificate of Return to Uwajumogu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the duly elected candidate in the Imo North Senatorial District poll.
Though not officially pronounced, speculations were rife that Uwajumogu’s travails in the hands of the electoral umpire was based on protests by his opponent, Mr Patrick Ndubueze of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who claimed that the election was inconclusive.
