Fires Razes 40 Shops In Kano
BY OUR CORRESPONDENT – Some traders in Kano are counting huge losses as about 40 shops and property worth millions of Naira were destroyed in a fire incident on Wednesday night in the Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano metropolis.
However, reports confirmed that no life was lost in the incident that occurred at a shopping complex adjacent to Zawaciki Housing Estate in Kano.
Eyewitnesses said over 40 shops located within the complex were razed by the inferno with those most affected being provision stores, cement shops, POS outlets, and clothing materials shops among others.
It was gathered that it took the efforts of the men of the State Fire Service with three trucks of water to successfully extinguish the raging inferno that left many of the shop owners and their sympathisers lamenting the huge losses they had to suffer in these hard times
Confirming the unfortunate incident, the State Fire Service, through its Public Relations Officer, Saminu Abdullahi, disclosed that the fire occurred at about 1:37 a.m. on Wednesday, adding; “We received a distress call at about 1:37 a.m. from one Malam Baba that there was a fire outbreak at Zawaciki. We quickly mobilised our personnel to the scene at about 1:47 a.m. and put out the fire so as not to spread to other shops.”
Mr Abdullahi said the 37 shops were on the ground floor of a multi-purpose building while the fire slightly damaged three other shops, and no life was lost.
However, he asked for more time to investigate the cause of the fire incident and come up with details later.
