Former Bauchi State SSG Emerges PDP Guber Candidate
BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – Former Secretary to the Bauchi State Government (SSG), Mr. Ibrahim Kashim Mohammed has emerged as the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 General Elections.
Kashim’s emergence followed the conduct of the party’s gubernatorial primary on Wednesday at the Banquet Hall of Zaranda Hotels, Bauchi which was presided over by the PDP Returning Officer for Bauchi State, Hassan Ahmed Grema.
Announcing the result, the Returning Officer declared that Kashim Ibrahim though the sole aspirant, polled a total of 655 votes out of the 656 accredited delegates leaving one invalid vote.
Grema therefore declared; “By the powers conferred on me by the constitution of the PDP, I hereby declare Barr Kashim Ibrahim as the winner of the PDP gubernatorial ticket for the 2023 General elections”.
Shortly after his declaration, Kashim that with the mandate given to him, the contest has just begun for 2023, adding that the PDP is ready to beat every other opposition.
He said; “We must be a united party to be able to defeat others in the general elections. I am appealing to all you to rally round and give the maximum support needed to win the general elections come 2023”.
He eulogized Governor Bala Mohammed for providing what he described as a purposeful leadership that has transformed Bauchi State far above its peers.
According to him; “Our focus when eventually elected in 2023 is to build on what has been done by our great political leader, Senator Bala Mohammed, who has demonstrated that good and effective leaders still abound in the country”.
He then thanked the delegates for electing him as the gubernatorial candidate of the party just as he commended the PDP for allowing level playing fields which led to the emergence of all the candidates of the party without rancour.
Meanwhile, Bauchi State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has advised Political Parties in the State to be guided by the Electoral Act throughout the process.
The State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Ibrahim Abdullahi, who gave the advice while supervising the State PDP Gubernatorial Election held in the State Capital, said that the Commission has made electoral guidelines available to political parties, electorates and all the relevant stakeholders to avoid irregularities before, during and after the conduct of the exercise.
The REC stressed the need for all of the electoral processes that will lead to the 2023 General elections to be followed within the confine of the relevant laws and regulations.
He commended the PDP for the orderly conduct of the election which saw Kashim as the winner.
