Former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lt-General Jeremiah Useni (Rtd) is dead. He died at the age of 81 years.
This was contained in a statement by Plateau State Governor, Mr Caleb Mutfwang, who said that Useni would have been 82 years of age on February 16, 2025.
The late General Useni represented Plateau South Senatorial District inthe Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria between 2015 and 2019.
The statement which was issued by Dr Gyang Bere, Director of Press and Public Affairs (DOPPA) to the Plateau State Governor, said that General Useni, who served as Minister of the FCT under the regime of Late General Sani Abacha, died on Thursday after a protracted illness.
Governor Mutfwang described General Useni’s demise as a huge loss to Plateau State and urged members of his immediate family and residents of the state to take solace in God.
The Governor said; “On behalf of my family, the government, and the peace-loving people of Plateau, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy to the President, the Armed Forces and Tarok nation over the loss of this distinguished elder statesman.
“I wish to also extend my condolences to his immediate family and relations. I call on them to take solace in God in this trying time,” Mutfwang said.
The late General JT Useni served in different capacities in the Nigerian Army. Amongst the positions he held included; Minister of Transport and Quarter-Master General of the Nigerian Army, among many others during his service years in the Nigerian military.
After retirement, Useni ventured into politics where he served as Deputy Chairman of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), won a senatorial seat and later contested the governorship position in Plateau State in 2019 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
