Fresh Benue Attack: 9 Persons Feared Dead
BY SEGUN ADEBAYO, ABUJA – Information reaching Forefront has revealed that no fewer than nine persons are feared dead at the Adana community of Agatu Local Government Area of Benue state, following an attack on the community by suspected killer herdsmen in the early hours of today, Sunday June 14, 2020.
The attack was said to have taken place around 4am when residents of community were still sleeping.
A member of the community, who identified himself as Mr Titus Ocholi, disclosed to our reporter that so far, nine persons, comprising five females and four males, have been confirmed dead.
He said over 20 persons were injured and are currently receiving treatment in different hospitals, while about four persons were missing as at the time of talking to our reporter.
The attackers, Ocholi further disclosed, also invaded and razed many houses in three communities of Olegogbeche, Olegeje and Olegede, all in Agatu Local Government Area.
He, however, said causalities were not recorded in those villages because the residents must have fled the settlements, following a hail of gunshots rained on Adana by the gunmen.
The attack on Agatu is the fifth of such attacks, following renewed onslaughts on Benue communities by killer herdsmen.
Penultimate Sunday, Itakpa and Echori in Okpokwu Council Ward of Obi Local Government Area came under attack which led to the killing of no fewer than 15 persons, while about 20 persons were injured.
