The Katsina State Government on Saturday, June 13, 2026, announced the death of Major General Rabe Abubakar (retd) in bandits’ captivity.
General Abubakar was believed to had died from complications from diabetes and hypertension as he was unable to survive without medicine for days since his abduction.
A statement by the Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasiru Mu’azu, described the death of Abubakar as a “tragic loss” that cuts deep into the heart of his family, Katsina, and a nation that could not bring him home alive.
Mu’azu stated that efforts by the state government and security agencies to secure the safe release of the retired General were unsuccessful.
The statement quoted Governor Dikko Umaru Radda as having said that he received the news with “deep sorrow,” describing it as “a dark moment” that exposes the raw brutality of banditry.
He said; “This is a reminder of the urgent need for a united front against criminal elements threatening peace and security”.
The Governor who said that his voice was heavy with grief, extended condolences to the bereaved family and to all Nigerians.
The Katsina State government emphasised that its resolve to end banditry remains “unwavering”.
