Gernot Rohr Not Good For Super Eagles ― Orji Kalu
- Demands his immediate sack by NFF
Former Abia State governor and current Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Orji Kalu, has described Coach Gernot Rohr as a mediocre with nothing to offer the Super Eagles going forward.
Following the recent disappointing 1-1 draw against Blue Sharks of Cape Verde inside the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos, Chief Kalu mocks that he will do a better job handling the Eagles than the German-born soccer manager.
According to Senator Kalu, the coach is as good as his last game, and that Rohr for not having any tactics in the match, ought to be sacked.
“Gernot Rohr is not a motivator to the players because he has nothing to offer; I can even motivate the players more than him because I’m a super motivator of my players.
“He is not a coach; I don’t see anything good in him; he has no stamina, no strategy, he doesn’t play any system and his team doesn’t excite me,” the former governor said.
He expressed preference for a local coach to handle the Super Eagles with a good pay package and a free hand to do his job as the national team manager.
Insisting that “Where the coach comes from doesn’t matter”, the Senator representing Abia North in the National Assembly said; “We have a lot of Nigerian coaches whom if you pay them what is due to them, they will do the job well.
“We have a lot of coaches both locally and international, and I’m sure NFF President Amaju Pinnick knows these people. If he is in doubt, he should consult me and I will tell him some names of coaches he can approach, whether local or international.
“If you ask me, I will prefer a Nigerian to coach the Super Eagles, but he should be paid well and given a schedule of international standard to operate.”
On Thursday, November 18, 2021, Kalu, who is the Chairman of SLOK Holding; the Daily Sun; and New Telegraph newspapers, through his social media handle, urged NFF to find an immediate replacement for Rohr, who has so far failed to live up to expectations of sports-loving Nigerians.
The African Pillar of Sports also disclosed that he rejected Rohr as a coach for Enyimba back in 2003 when he was the governor of Abia because the German did not possess the qualities of a good coach.
Though hugely disappointing to many Nigerian football fans, the result of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier played in Lagos, ensured the Super Eagles qualified for the Qatar 2022 World Cup play-off.
The outcome also ensured Nigeria finished top of their Group C competition with 13 points, while Cape Verde placed second with 11 points. – NAN reports
