‘Go And Sin No More’ – CR Lawmakers Tell Speaker Ayambem
- Reverse self on impeachment following Gov Otu’s interventionÂ
BY UBON EKANEM, CALABAR – Typically acting out the ‘Go and sin no more’ scene, agitated members of the Cross River State House of Assembly (CRSHA) have retraced their steps and decided to give embattled Speaker Elvert Ayambem a second chance at redeeming himself as the head of the State legislature.
In the process, the lawmakers swallowed their pride and reverse themselves on the earlier impeachment of the embattled Speaker, claiming the action was in the overall interest of the State and its peace-loving people.
Confirming their reversed stand on the impeachment saga, the member, representing Yakurr 1 State constituency, Hon Cyril Omini, who raised the vote of confidence on the Speaker, said the Assemblymen’s latest move was also meant to assure Governor Bassey Otu that they are solidly behind his “People’s First” mantra administration.
Though the Lawmakers did not address issues around the no confidence vote earlier passed on Speaker Ayambem for alleged high-handedness and financial impropriety, they urged Cross Riverians to fully support the Governor Otu-led administration given that his indelible footprints and visionary leadership have propelled the state to greater heights within a short period of one year.
Forefront News findings indicate that after the governor’s intervention in the festering crisis, the lawmakers saw reason to sheath their swords and allow peace to prevail.
However, it was not immediately known if the peace accord brokered by Governor Otu actually went down well with the 17 lawmakers who initially raised the alarm to draw the public’s attention to alleged financial wrong doings by the Speaker.

The statement titled; “Cross River State Assembly Members Agree To Restore Normalcy After Meeting With Gov Otu”, quoted the Governor as emphasizing the need for unity among the lawmakers for a purpose-driven Legislature that effectively complements the executive arm in delivery democracy dividends to the people all the way.
