BY WILLIAM ATTAH, GOMBE – Bold moves by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftains and stakeholders in Gombe State to reposition the Party ahead of 2023 general elections are yielding fruits with the reconciliation of immediate past Governor, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo and a former Governorship aspirant during the 2019 party primaries, Dr. Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna.

Insiders in the opposition party hinted that in deciding to reconcile their differences, both men were seen exchanging warm handshakes as Gwamna enjoyed a welcoming reception to the party that he dumped almost four years ago.

Gwamna’s media aide, Ibrahim Sani Shawai, said in statement to newsmen in Gombe that his principal, who a fortnight ago dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), was returning to the PDP alongside his crowd of associates and supporters.

Gwamna, tipped to win the PDP governorship primaries for the 2019 general elections, had angrily left the party after failing to secure the ticket, describing the process as “unfair and lacking in transparency”.

However, on Wednesday evening, the atmosphere was quite welcoming for Gwamna, the Sardauna of Gombe, after about four years sojourn in the APC that he greatly helped to victory in 2019.

The PDP leader and immediate past Governor of Gombe State, Ibrahim Dankwambo, who was on hand at his Abuja residence to receive Jamilu back to the PDP, assured him and his entourage of all necessary support as they work together for unity within the party ahead of 2023 elections.

The former Governor, while acknowledging the Sardauna as his brother, said; “I welcome him back to our fold. We’ll work together for the unity and the success of the party.”

He urged Dr. Jamilu, his associates and supporters to hit the grassroots and mobilise people for PDP ahead of the 2023 general elections.

In his remarks, Gwamna said; “Your Excellency, we are here today for two reasons: To visit you and cement our existing relationship as brothers and to also inform you that I have returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).”

“I assure you that we are ready to unite ourselves and return PDP to government in the state come 2023,” he said
